Randy Pausch: 1960-2008

Heard over the radio this morning that Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor whose last lecture turned into a video favorite (see above or here) and an inspirational book, has died of pancreatic cancer.

The lecture was supposed to be a message to his children, something he could leave them because he’d been told he only had three to six months left then.

By that reckoning, the news reports of his death would have gone out in February. Instead, he had another five months with his family.

I could talk about the medicines and the willpower that made this possible – but it’s already been done. Right now there’s really only one thing running through my mind, aside from offering his family my condolences.

Lucky them.
